Traffic Safety Checkpoint

September 12, 2012

Marshall County - Officers with the Marshalltown Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office along with officers from around the area will be conducting a Traffic Safety Checkpoint on Friday, September 14, 2012. This event, in conjunction with the Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), will be held in the evening time in an area of Marshalltown and/or Marshall County. Uniformed officers, official vehicles, and adequate warning signs will be on display in the area to inform motorists of the potential of the impending intrusion.

The purpose of this checkpoint is to reinforce our efforts with the message about traffic safety and getting it out to the public. This checkpoint is as much about education as it is enforcement. Those vehicles that are stopped can expect to be checked for license, registration and insurance as well as vehicle equipment requirements. Not every car that passes the checkpoint will be stopped. However, any obvious signs of unlawful behavior or plain view violations will be addressed in an effort to increase highway safety awareness.

This checkpoint will serve as an opportunity for law enforcement officials from multiple agencies to work together to educate motorists on highway safety and supply them with giveaways to enlist their support in making Iowa's roadways a safer place to travel.
