Rhodes, Iowa - Information was reported to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office on 9-7-09, about a man in a pickup truck, who reportedly approached a 14 year old girl, in Rhodes, as she was walking home. The man was alleged to have asked for some directions, and then attempted to pull the girl towards him. The girl was able to get away and was uninjured.
Melbourne/Rhodes Police Department has been conducting a follow-up investigation in an attempt to gain more information and corroboration regarding the descriptions of the vehicle and the male subject.
Descriptions at this time, are minimal, and involve a white male, balding, 30-40 yrs of age, driving a smaller dark colored pickup, possibly with a tool box in the bed.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office is also aware that in the past few days, that there was reportedly another such incident in Garwin, in Tama County. Authorities in Tama County advise that this was a report of a suspicious vehicle involving a van, and there was no attempt to abduct a child. There is no known connection to this incident and the Rhodes incident.
The Marshall County Sheriff's Office is aware that emails and text messages have been circulating the community and surrounding areas regarding these and possibly other incidents, that may or may not contain accurate information.
The Sheriff's Office encourages citizens to be always vigilante and aware of their surroundings, wherever they may be, and to report unusual or suspicious activity. The time to report such activity is when it is occurring.
