Two men arrested by Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force

6 N. 11th Ave. Marshalltown, IA - A Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force investigation resulted in the arrests of two local men, for drug offenses, on Monday evening, 10-29-07.

Officers with the drug task force, the Marshalltown Police Department, and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, executed a search warrant at 6 N. 11th Ave., Marshalltown, and took the two men into custody after officers seized approximately 112 grams of "ice" methamphetamine.

Drug paraphernalia and a car were also seized on the warrant.

Arrested on scene were:

  • Baltazar Angel-Melendez, age 51, of 6 N. 11th Ave., Marshalltown, IA.
  • Edenilson Joya-Flores, age 39, also of 6 N. 11th Ave., Marshalltown, IA.

Both suspects were charged with:

  1. Possession of a schedule II controlled substance, with intent to deliver, a Class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
  2. Violation of the Drug Tax stamp, a Class D felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

Angel-Melendez and Joya-Flores were jailed and held on bond, after an initial appearance in court, on 10-30-07. The arrests stemmed from a 2-month investigation into sales of methamphetamine. The street value of the methamphetamine is estimated at over $10,000.00.

The Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force received additional assistance in the investigation from the Des Moines Police Narcotics Division and the Iowa National Guard Counterdrug program.

The Mid-Iowa Drug Task force is funded by a federal Bryne Justice Assistance grant, administered by the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, and the State Governor's Office of Drug Control Policy. The task force operates in Grundy, Hardin, Marshall and Tama Counties.

Child Safety Seat Checkup Event

June 24, 2021

On Sunday, June 27 from 12:00PM to 4:00PM child passenger safety technicians with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Marshalltown Police Department will be hosting a child seat safety checkup event at Fareway located at 102 W Anson St.  This event will be co-sponsored Fareway and Child Abuse Prevention Services of Marshalltown.  Technicians will be available to check child safety seats to make sure they properly fit the vehicle and child as well as ensuring correct and safe installation. They will also be checking seats to make sure they are not expired or recalled.   Techs will work with parents or caregivers to educate them on correct installation as well as offer tips to aid with proper installation.  They will also be able to answer general questions about child passenger safety.  This is a good opportunity to learn about different seat options and transitioning to different seats as your child grows and develops.  Informational handouts will be available for caregivers. 

Marshall County Sheriff’s Office to conduct special enforcement June 9 -12

Marshall County, Iowa – June 8th, 2021 – Father’s Day should be a time to celebrate, but it can also be one of the deadliest on the roads. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is joining Iowa’s statewide Traffic Fatality Reduction Task Force in an effort to reduce deaths on Iowa roadways. As part of that effort Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, will be conducting a special enforcement initiative geared toward reduction of impaired drivers leading into Father’s Day week.
