Two Marshalltown residents were arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine, Thursday evening, after a meth lab was discovered at the residence at 6 E. Webster St., in Marshalltown.
Workers from the Department of Human Services and Marshalltown Police had gone to the residence on a welfare check, and while at the residence, detected odors of ether and chemicals coming from the residence. The house was cleared of occupants, including three adults and two children, ages 5 & 8.
Officers from the Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force arrived to assist the investigation, and a subsequent search resulted in the discovery of an apparent meth lab on the third floor attic of the house. Two adults were taken into custody at that time, for manufacturing methamphetamine.
State Agents from the State Division of Narcotics Enforcement were called to assist in processing the scene. Agents seized items of evidence pertaining to the manufacture of methamphetamine from the attic, for analysis at the DCI Lab. Task Force officers also seized about 12 grams of "finished product methamphetamine," from one suspect.
Both Walker and Merschbrock were being held at the Marshall County Jail on bond, after an initial appearance in court on 2-23-07. The two children from the home, were transported to MMSC for decontamination and physical examinations, and were later released to a relative.
The investigation is continuing. The Mid-Iowa Drug Task Force encourages persons with information about suspected drug activity, to call the Task Force at 641 754-6392.
